Beau Grealy/Marie Claire
Rita Ora covers the July issue of Marie Claire with
hair so blonde it almost looks gray (in a cool way), and in the
accompanying interview, discusses her breakup with Calvin Harris. The
pair broke up last year and engaged in some public mudslinging after
Rita said Calvin wouldn't let her perform their song "I Will Never Let
You Down" at the Teen Choice Awards. Rita again mentions that song as a
turning point in their relationship, noting that things between them
went south after it premiered.
"I was at that point in my relationship where I felt he
could do no wrong," she says. "I thought he had my back and that he'd
never steer me wrong. But then 'I Will Never Let You Down' came out, and
everything started to go a bit weird. I don't know if it was because
business was mixed with personal or what." She doesn't really get more
specific than that, but says that "there was a reason why I split up
with him." Because the song was written and produced by Calvin, he had
to give Rita permission to perform it on television, and he apparently
did not. At the time, he tweeted that he had a "damn good reason" for withholding his OK.
Calvin is now dating Taylor Swift, with whom he likes to ride inflatable swans in infinity pools. That is not a metaphor.
