One Indian Teen Killed In A Street Boxing Match Inspired By The Mayweather and Pacquiao Fight

The very violent essence and nature of boxing has been debated over the years as to whether or not it is capable of influencing people, especially the impressionable youth into committing violent acts. Boxing is a sport that is recognized around the world and big name fighters are able to generate millions of viewers worldwide as well as millions of dollars in revenue. The recent and highly anticipated Mayweather and Pacquiao fight was just such a fight and was able to gain the attention of a small group of young college students in the area of Mir Chowk , India.
A group of 9 young men, mostly students were apprehended after 17- year old Nabil Mohammed was killed in a deadly street boxing match. This group of young men were inspired by the Mayweather fight and decided to take it into their own hands refereeing the fight themselves in a bare knuckle brawl for the grand prize of biryani - a traditional Indian dish. Owais Patel a 19 year old student had fought in two previous bouts proving himself to be the victor before squaring off with Owais who was first reluctant to participate. Nabil was pestered into the fight by being called a " hijra and a coward." This further humiliated and infuriated Nabil and pushed him to commit to entering the street fight.

After a quick wrestling skirmish the two teens began to throw blows wildly. Nabil was hit with a barrage of punches that landed forcefully on his temple and neck region. Shortly after he fell to the ground seemingly unconscious. The other teens rushed him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:30 am.
